Changing Our Image OneMirror At a Time ….. Hey there! My name is Veronica V. Fleming family and friends call me Rocky, Ronnie, or simply V. I am very new to the world of blogging (first time blogger). I have been wanting to blog for a while but didn’t quite know what I wanted to blog about. Then one day it dawned on me I want my blog to be a platform that will aid in erasing stereotypes and negative images of African-American women. This is something that has bothered me for quite a while…… but I had one very important question- What part should we as women play in shifting the paradigm? I believe it is our responsibility to pull the coat tail of our sister-friends when we witness her engaging in behaviors that could fule the fire of negative stereotypes & images. ◇BE HER MIRROR◇ I thought about the many different conversations I have had with a few of my dearest friends. How did those conversations impacted or shape me ; was it good or bad & did I receive or dismiss criticism which came from a place of love and given in the spirit of being a true and good friend. I am referring to conversations we shared related to flaws they saw in me, flaws that I really didn’t see or chose to ignore. One conversation in particular ended a really good long-time friendship. I will go into more detail about this later in my blog because I want your input. I want YOU to be MY mirror. In time when I am ready I will revisit. For now I am inviting you to post your mirror experiences. How did it impact or shape you and your friendship. I am encouraging you to invite your BFF, sister, sister-friend, friend-girl co-worker or whoever you’d like to have a respectful yet candid conversation. Be her mirror! Honestly, when we are not candid with our friends and allow her to continue down the wrong path be it a bad attitude, hateful spirit, being unaccountable for her actions ect, ect, & ect we are not being that good of a friend in fact we are doing her a disservice! Just a few rules: ◇Be Honest ◇Be Candid yet Respectful ◇Have Good Intentions ◇Uplift her but do not pacify her ◇Come from a Place of Love ♡ PS: FELLAS yes I want to hear from you too! What are your thoughts on the stereotypes and negative image? Are we doing enough to end the negativity or do we play right into it? What should we be doing differently according to you. Keep in mind the same rules above apply to you too! ◇ Follow us on Facebook at https://www.facebook.com/iammysistersmirror
